Good morning Buckeye families,
I hope everyone enjoys their four-day weekend. I’m looking forward to some family time for sure.
We are going to have a very special spirit day coming up on Thursday, September 11th. This is a National Day of Observance called Patriot Day. First and foremost, this is a day of remembrance, and we will have a moment of silence during the morning walk, but I would also like to take moment to show our patriotism and recognize the veterans and all first responders that serve in our community. We are asking students and staff to wear some red, white, and blue that day and we’d like any family members, including extended family, that has served or are currently serving to come join us for our morning walk. This is open to all that serve to keep our community safe and free. We would love for you to join us at 8:35 for the morning walk and then come to the front so we can all personally thank you for your service. Our PTC will be providing refreshments for our Veterans after the morning walk. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me.
INTERVENTION:
At Buckeye we have support for students that are behind grade level in both math and reading. For reading we will serve students in grades K-5. We call this our Bobcat Reading Boost. If your child is participating in this program, it will be a pullout time that is coordinated with the classroom teacher for 30 minutes a day Mon-Thurs. We have five reading teachers that will work together to provide systematic phonics instruction in a small group setting. This would be in addition to the instruction they receive in class so that we can attempt to close any gaps in their learning. We do frequent progress assessments to track how the students are doing throughout their time in intervention.
In addition, we provide math intervention for students in 2nd-5th grade. Student are identified for math intervention based the results of our iReady math diagnostic that we administer 3 times a year. We provide 30 minutes of small group instruction Mon. – Thurs. The lessons they work on during math intervention are correlated with the prerequisite skill they will need to be successful in class.
